90 years ago airship R100 set off on her epic proving voyage across the Atlantic, the first half of the flight was rather smooth going but things got interesting at the start of the St Lawrance river when they hit rough winds and a thunder storm that forcefully through R100 over 4 thousand feet in an updraft, estimsted the last 1000ft risw took just 15 seconds, suffering some pretty big fabric tears a team of 15 men, many choosing not to use a safty line made in flight repairs and carried on to their ultimate destination, St Hubert flying field where a mast similar to the one built at Cardington stood ready to accept the ship.
Many thousands came to view R100 and the below footage shows some epic shots of the ship on the Canada mast, mast head and inside the ship.
